My classroom

My classroom will be practical for the subject I am teaching, Earth and Space Science. Like most science classrooms, mine will be equipped with lab tables each of which support at least two students so they can partner up. Also, I would like long countertops and cabinets to cover the perimeter of the classroom so materials can be housed easily. I would also like basic weather technology like a thermometer, barometer, and a wind gauge so students can explore aspects of the weather. It is imperative that my classroom have windows, not only for the students's sake but for my own sanity as well. My ideal classroom would also be decorated with posters and other objects that are relavant to science.

Matthew Bardo

My name is Matthew Bardo; I am 21 years of age, and I’m entering my senior year at Lock Haven University. I grew up in the town of Jersey Shore which is only about 10 miles away from campus. I have one brother who is 6 years old and a sister who is 19. My family is very important to me which is one of the main reasons I stayed close to home for college. I have been living in Lock Haven for 4 years but recently moved into a different apartment downtown. I am majoring in Earth and Space Science, which believe it or not was not my first choice. I entered LHU as a Phys. Ed major but after a couple of weeks I quickly realized the odds of me getting a job in the area were slim. For someone like me who wasn’t really a fan of relocating out of the state this played an important role in my decision. Some of my hobbies include biking, weight lifting, fishing, camping, and basically anything that can be done outside.
I haven’t really had much of an opportunity to use technology in my learning. Usually, most of the technology I used was limited to Microsoft word and powerpoint. I have used several online databases such as Ebscohost to find online articles for research purposes though. I can also use Microsoft FrontPage now to create a webquest and a homepage. I plan on using technology in my teaching as much as possible. Technology plays a big role in understanding science and should be used whenever necessary to solidify the concepts being taught. Students of today enjoy using technology and also become more actively engaged in the learning process when they get to use it. Although my experiences with technology have been limited, I’m looking forward to learning all the ways I can incorporate it into my future classroom.
